Ashley has worked with the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom since the summer of 2003. Her journey to becoming a senior trainer began as a seasonal employee learning training techniques and animal behavior. Her interests in environmental protection and love of the ocean were broadened with obtaining her scuba certification and participating in a semester at sea with the California Maritime Academy.
Ashley attended Diablo Valley College and transferred to California State University, Monterey Bay to complete her formal education in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in earth systems, science and policy with an emphasis in marine mammals. Upon graduation she became a full-time employee at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and continues her learning experiences to this day. She is not only a senior trainer, training behaviors that delight the many visitors to Discovery Kingdom, but also has responsibilities for the health and well being of these amazing marine animals. These responsibilities include animal husbandry, including taking biological samples (blood, fecal, etc.) for health determinations, to artificial insemination to assure the continued reproduction of healthy viable bottlenose dolphins for all of us to enjoy and learn from.
